For the love of blogs

I've never been a fan of magazines, I'm not especially fussed about celebrity gossip, I've never earned enough money to be high maintenance so what do I care about the latest beauty products? I like rock music, jazz, folk and cabaret, so what do I care about the latest mainstream pop act? Nope, magazines just leave me dissatisfied - not to mention wanting things I can't afford, or thinking I need things I really don't need. In general magazines seem to encourage us not to think, to toe the line and keep consuming like a good citizen. But I don't need to be told what to like, what to wear, what's hot and what's not, fuck off!

So thank God for blogs!

I'm such a newcomer to this, I started writing just to get things off my chest but the last few weeks reading blogs has become my passion. I read those of people who are like me, people who are nothing like me, people I'd like to be like... and they make me think for myself, they make me feel, they inspire me, wake me up. Instead of feeling dissatisfied with my lot in life they make me want to celebrate what I have and strive to be more. Rather than muffling my voice, I feel they're helping me find my own voice, helping me realise both who I am and who I want to be.

I suddenly want to paint more, make things, write... I want my house decorated with hand made things, either by myself or by others who have put soul into their work, I don't want mass produced, I want to support people who are following their passions and not societies expectations. My head is buzzing suddenly with ideas and opinions, far too many to express here, but my own voice is getting louder by the day.

So thank you, thank you dear bloggers of this world.

p.s. I should say I do enjoy a little mindless pap from time to time, sometimes it is good to switch off and not think - but sometimes, not all the time.
